Quick shout out to you Lost fans eagerly awaiting tonights episode...
I predict that Desmond and Penny's son Charlie (who was presumably named after our Charlie from the island), actually is our Charlie from the island. Wouldn't that be awesome and explain all the focus put on the birth of their son and the continued focus on them. It would also add alot of weight to Charlie's sacrifice to save everyone and his friendship with Desmond. Think about it and rememeber that you heard it here first.

Okay, so Desmond Hume & Penny have a son named Charlie Hume after he re-unites after his time on the island
Desmond meets Charlie Pace on the island before his son Charlie is born
now to fill in the blanks in a prediction which I support...
Desmond ends up back at the island and loses his baby son in a time trap, which sends baby Desmond back in time.
Charlie (Desmond's son) grows up with Simon and Megan Pace, who he believes are his real parents.
Charlie now an adult gets on Oceanic Flight 815, which brings him to the island.
This is where Charlie and Desmond meet, but Charlie is unaware Desmond is his real father, and in Desmond's timeline he hasn't yet had a son.
When Desmond keeps seeing Charlie die, and soon knows it to be inevitable, fate takes Charlie.
Charlie has to die because the life of Charlie Hume is about to begin again in the present and the same person cannot exist twice in the same time. In essence, Charlie's, death actually leads to his birth in the present.
Sound conveluted? It is. But typical for writer JJ Abrams (who is awesome).
Other little coincidences???
- Penny's dad is also named Charles/Charlie)
- Charlie Pace & Desmond are both from the UK
